0.1788 troy oz .900 1877 Very Fine

In 1877, the Carson City Mint struck a notable run of silver quarters featuring the iconic Liberty Seated motif. This particular twenty-five cent piece, composed of 90 percent silver, carries the coveted "CC" mintmark, representing a fascinating era of American coinage produced in the American West. Out of a total mintage of 4,192,000 for this issue, surviving specimens in Very Fine condition offer a clear look at a design that defined United States silver currency for decades. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse of the coin depicts Lady Liberty seated upon a rock. In her left hand, she supports a staff topped with a liberty cap, while her right hand rests upon a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. This imagery projected national values of freedom and preparedness during a period of rapid continental expansion. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle perched upon a branch, clutching three arrows in its talons. A shield is positioned across the eagle's chest, mirroring the protective theme of the obverse. Surrounding the central eagle are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination QUAR. DOL., marking this coin as a classic artifact of nineteenth-century commerce.
