The 1885 Liberty Seated dime offers a remarkable window into late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck in 90% fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint, this ten-cent piece survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of its original engraving. Containing approximately 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal, the coin is a physical artifact from an era when precious metal circulated daily in American commerce. The obverse of the coin displays a classic representation of Lady Liberty. She is depicted sitting on a rock, holding a staff topped with a Phrygian cap in one hand while her other hand rests on a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The date 1885 is clearly struck beneath her feet, and the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA encircle the upper border. On the reverse, a detailed wreath wraps around the center of the coin, framing the denomination. Although the OCR transcription reads "ONE DEME" due to historical spelling variations and strike characteristics, the reverse displays the traditional "ONE DIME" lettering.
