The year 1886 marked a late chapter in the long run of the Liberty Seated dime, a classic ten cent denomination struck in 90 percent silver. This particular coin, preserved in Extra Fine condition, showcases the intricate artistry of the era. With a silver weight of 0.0715 troy ounces, the dime represents a period when precious metal circulated daily in the pockets of everyday people. On the obverse side, Lady Liberty is depicted sitting on a rock, holding a staff topped with a Phrygian cap in one hand, while her other hand rests on a shield. The year 1886 is clearly inscribed beneath her. The reverse side features the words ONE DIME encircled by a detailed, lush wreath, surrounded by the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. This design, created by Christian Gobrecht, was minted in Philadelphia, which did not use a mint mark at the time.
