1890 Liberty Seated Dime VF

0.0715 troy oz .900 1890 Very Fine

The 1890 Liberty Seated dime offers a fascinating window into the coinage of late nineteenth-century America. Minted in Philadelphia, this ten-cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal. Surviving in Very Fine condition, the coin retains much of the original detail envisioned by its creator, Christian Gobrecht. On the obverse, the design features Lady Liberty seated upon a rock. In her left hand, she supports a staff topped with a liberty cap, while her right hand rests upon a shield inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The year 1890 is clearly struck below the seated figure, surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA along the rim. The reverse of the coin focuses on the face value, displaying the words ONE DIME. This denomination is encircled by a detailed wreath, showcasing the delicate artistry that characterized United States coinage during this era. As a sovereign issue, this dime represents a classic example of historic American currency.
