Introduced in the late nineteenth century, the Barber half dollar represents a distinct era in United States coinage. Minted between 1892 and 1915, these fifty-cent pieces are composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. The series is named after its creator, Charles Barber, who served as the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. The obverse of the coin presents a profile of Lady Liberty, who wears a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. Above her head, the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed, while the year of mintage is positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide. The eagle bears a protective shield on its chest, clutches an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons, and holds a ribbon in its beak. The country name "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "HALF DOLLAR" frame this classic national motif.
