1892-1916 Barber Quarter Culls

Introduced in the final decade of the nineteenth century, the Barber quarter dollar represents a classic era of United States silver coinage. Minted from 1892 to 1916, these 90 percent silver coins contain approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. Each piece carries the distinct artistic touch of designer Charles Barber, capturing the aesthetic transition of America entering the twentieth century. The obverse of the coin showcases a proud profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap, a laurel wreath, and a headband inscribed with LIBERTY. Above her head, the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST is clearly displayed, framed by stars along the border and the year of issue below. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle commands attention with its wings spread wide. The eagle protects a shield on its chest while holding a banner inscribed with E PLURIBUS UNUM in its beak. In its talons, it grips an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing both peace and defense. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR encircle this intricate design. Because these pieces are heavily circulated culls, they often bear unique physical histories in the form of cleaning, scratches, or surface wear, making each surviving coin a tangible artifact of daily commerce from a bygone era.
