In 1892, the United States Mint introduced a new ten cent piece, launching a design era that would span more than two decades. This inaugural year issue, struck in 90% fine silver, contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Created by Charles Barber, the coin represents a major aesthetic shift for American pocket change at the end of the nineteenth century. The obverse of the coin displays a classical portrait of Lady Liberty, who wears a laurel wreath atop her head along with a traditional Phrygian cap. On specimens in this worn, historical condition, the word Liberty is no longer visible, though the outer rim remains defined. Surrounding the central bust, the legend reads United States of America, with the date 1892 anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a lush agricultural wreath frames the denomination, which is spelled out simply as One Dime. Depending on the individual coin, the reverse rim may show slight weakness from decades of circulation. This piece offers a tangible connection to the late Victorian era, showcasing a design that circulated heavily through the turn of the century.
