0.0715 troy oz .900 1892 Very Fine

In 1892, the United States Mint introduced a fresh aesthetic to its ten cent denomination, a design conceived by Chief Engraver Charles Barber. This particular silver coin, minted at the historic New Orleans facility, represents the very first year of the celebrated Barber series. Struck in 90 percent pure silver, it carries a total precious metal weight of 0.0715 troy ounces. The obverse of the coin presents a profile of Lady Liberty, who wears a laurel wreath atop a Phrygian cap. A headband across her brow is inscribed with the word LIBERTY. On the reverse side, a detailed wreath encircles the face value of the coin, which is stated simply as ONE DIME. Surviving in Very Fine condition, this piece offers a clear look at the artistry that defined American pocket change at the close of the nineteenth century.
