The year 1892 marked the debut of a new era in United States coinage, and this silver quarter from the New Orleans Mint represents the very beginning of that celebrated design sequence. Struck with a purity of 90 percent silver, the coin contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. It carries the distinctive 'O' mint mark, signaling its origin at the historic southern minting facility. Created by Charles Barber, the coin features a classic depiction of Lady Liberty on its obverse. She is shown in profile, adorned with a traditional Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath resting upon her head, symbolizing freedom and victory. The year of issue, 1892, is clearly displayed beneath her portrait. The reverse side presents a powerful heraldic eagle with wings spread wide. A protective shield is positioned across the bird's chest, while its beak holds a flowing banner. In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch of peace and a cluster of arrows, representing strength and readiness. This specimen survives in Good to Very Good condition, offering a tangible look at a design that circulated widely at the turn of the twentieth century.
