In 1892, the United States Mint introduced a new silver half dollar design, crafted by Chief Engraver Charles Barber. This inaugural year issue from the San Francisco Mint, struck in 90 percent silver, showcases a distinct late nineteenth-century aesthetic that circulated heavily during America's Gilded Age. This specific piece survives in Very Good condition, showing honest wear on its surfaces and rims from its time in commerce. The obverse features a classical profile of Lady Liberty facing right, adorned with a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed above her, with the first-year date of 1892 positioned below. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle stretches its wings, protecting a shield on its breast. In its beak, the eagle holds a ribbon inscribed with "E PLURIBUS UNUM", while its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing peace and readiness. The mint mark "S" is located at the bottom, identifying its origin at the San Francisco facility.
