1893 Barber Dime XF

0.0715 troy oz .900 1893 Extra Fine

The year 1893 marked an early chapter in the life of a classic American ten cent piece. Struck in 90 percent silver at the Philadelphia Mint, this Barber dime represents a time when precious metal circulated daily in the pockets of citizens. Containing approximately 0.0715 troy ounces of pure silver, the coin is a tactile connection to late nineteenth century commerce. On the obverse, the profile of Lady Liberty faces right, her hair adorned with a traditional Phrygian cap and a secured laurel wreath. The word LIBERTY is visible on her headband, framed by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the date 1893 below. This design, created by Charles Barber, presents a dignified and classical interpretation of American ideals. The reverse of the coin focuses on simplicity and natural imagery. A lush wreath of agricultural elements frames the central denomination, which is clearly inscribed as ONE DIME. This particular specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the crisp details of the foliage and the delicate lines of Liberty's portrait for modern observers to appreciate.
