1893-O Barber Half Dollar AG

0.3575 troy oz .900 1893 Almost Good

Struck in 90 percent silver at the historic New Orleans Mint, this 1893 half dollar represents a fascinating era of American coinage. Even in its heavily circulated Almost Good condition, the coin carries the unmistakable artistry of Charles Barber, whose vision defined the silver currency of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The obverse presents the profile of Lady Liberty, adorned with a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap, a classic symbol of freedom. Above her head, the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed, while the 1893 year of issue rests below her portrait. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle stretches its wings, protecting a shield across its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a banner, while its talons grasp both an olive branch of peace and a cluster of arrows, symbolizing readiness. The "O" mint mark of the New Orleans facility is positioned below the eagle, marking this coin's origin in the American South.
