Struck in the late nineteenth century, this 1893 silver half dollar represents a fascinating era of United States coinage. Minted at the historic New Orleans facility, as indicated by the O mint mark, this coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. Having circulated heavily through daily commerce, its worn surface carries the tangible character of a bygone era. The coin features the artwork of Charles Barber. On the obverse, a classic depiction of Lady Liberty faces right, adorned with a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap, bordered by the motto IN GOD WE TRUST and the 1893 date. The reverse showcases a heraldic eagle with spread wings, a protective shield on its chest, and a banner held in its beak. In its talons, the eagle grasps a symbolic olive branch and a bundle of arrows, surrounded by the country's name and the half dollar denomination.
