In 1893, the United States Mint at New Orleans struck this classic silver quarter, a piece of late nineteenth-century coinage that carries the distinct 'O' mint mark. Composed of 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent piece contains approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents the early years of a design series that circulated heavily through the turn of the century. The obverse of the coin showcases a profile of Lady Liberty, envisioned by designer Charles Barber. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath, a classical motif. Above her head, the motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' is partially visible, with the year 1893 anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle stretches its wings, protecting a shield across its chest.
