The 1893 silver quarter minted in New Orleans offers a tangible look at late nineteenth-century American coinage. This particular specimen survives in a Very Good state of preservation, showing the honest wear of a coin that circulated during a dynamic era in United States history. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the quarter displays a dignified profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath, a classic symbol of victory and freedom. Above her portrait, the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed, while the year 1893 is anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle commands attention with its wings spread wide. A protective shield covers the eagle's chest, while its beak holds a flowing banner. In its talons, the eagle grasps an olive branch of peace alongside a cluster of arrows representing strength. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "QUARTER DOLLAR" encircle this detailed patriotic motif, with the distinctive "O" mint mark signifying its origin at the historic New Orleans Mint.
