1894 Barber Half Dollar Fine

0.3575 troy oz .900 1894 Fine

The 1894 half dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage, struck in 90 percent silver with a total precious metal content of 0.3575 troy ounces. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, this fifty-cent piece showcases the influential artistry of Charles Barber, whose work defined the look of American silver coins at the turn of the twentieth century. This particular specimen survives in Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that actively circulated in nineteenth-century commerce. On the obverse, Lady Liberty is depicted facing right, wearing a laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" arches above her head, while the year 1894 is stamped clearly below. The reverse features a heraldic eagle with wings spread wide, protecting a shield on its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a ribbon bearing the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". Its talons grasp both an olive branch of peace and a cluster of arrows, symbolizing strength, while the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR" frame the entire design.
