Struck in the late nineteenth century, this 1894 silver quarter dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Crafted from 90 percent silver, the coin contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. It is a tangible survivor from the decade of the 1890s, carrying the wear and character of a piece that circulated widely in daily commerce. The coin features the artistic work of Charles Barber. On the obverse, Lady Liberty is depicted facing right, wearing a laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" arches above her head, with the year 1894 anchored at the bottom. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, protecting a shield on its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a banner, while its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. The surrounding inscription reads "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "QUARTER DOLLAR." This particular specimen shows honest wear consistent with its Good to Very Good condition. The details on the reverse eagle and shield are worn down from decades of handling, and the protective outer rim may show slight wear.
