1894-O Barber Half Dollar AG
This 1894 silver half dollar, struck at the historic New Orleans Mint, offers a fascinating glimpse into late nineteenth-century American coinage. Created by designer Charles Barber, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. Even with the extensive wear of the Almost Good grade, the coin retains its historic character and tells a story of decades in active circulation. The obverse presents Lady Liberty facing right, adorned with a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap. While the word Liberty is no longer visible on her headband, the surrounding motto IN GOD WE TRUST and the 1894 year of issue remain legible, framed by a heavily worn rim. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle stretches its wings, bearing a shield upon its chest. In its beak, the bird supports a ribbon, while its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. Though the reverse details and the outer rim show significant wear from its time in commerce, the classic imagery of this nineteenth-century series remains recognizable and deeply compelling.
