1894-O Barber Quarter Good
This 1894 silver quarter dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage, emerging from the southern mint in New Orleans. Struck in 90 percent pure silver, the coin contains 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. It carries the distinctive artistry of Charles Barber, whose work defined the look of American pocket change at the turn of the twentieth century. The front of the coin displays a profile of Lady Liberty, who wears a laurel wreath atop a Phrygian cap. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed above her, with the year 1894 positioned below. On the reverse side, an heraldic eagle spreads its wings, protecting a shield on its chest. The bird grips an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons, while holding a ribbon in its beak. Having circulated heavily, this piece is graded in Good condition. The passage of time has softened the details on the reverse design, and the outer rim shows signs of gentle wear, telling the story of a coin that actively passed through many hands in the late nineteenth century.
