The 1894-S Barber half dollar represents a fascinating era of United States coinage, struck in 90 percent silver at the San Francisco Mint. This fifty-cent piece contains approximately 0.3575 to 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal, carrying the physical weight of late nineteenth-century commerce. Surviving in Fine condition, this coin shows the honest wear of a piece that actively circulated through the hands of everyday Americans. Designed by Charles Barber, the coin features a classic obverse portrait of Lady Liberty. She is depicted facing right, wearing a laurel wreath atop her head and a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. The year 1894 is anchored at the bottom, while the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed above her profile. The reverse side of the coin displays a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. A protective shield is positioned at the eagle's chest, while its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing both peace and defense.
