1894-S Barber Half Dollar VG

0.3575 troy oz .900 1894 Very Good

Struck in the late nineteenth century, this 1894 half dollar from the San Francisco Mint represents a classic era of United States silver coinage. Minted with a composition of 90 percent silver, which equates to 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal, the coin has survived in Very Good condition. This level of preservation allows observers to appreciate the core elements of a design that circulated heavily during a transformative decade in American history. The obverse of the coin showcases a profile of Lady Liberty. Designed by Charles Barber, she is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath, symbols of freedom and victory. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed above her, with the year 1894 anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a bold heraldic eagle dominates the field with its wings spread wide. A protective shield rests upon its chest, while its beak clasps a ribbon bearing the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing the dual themes of peace and readiness. The inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arches over the top of the design, while the "HALF DOLLAR" denomination is featured below.
