0.3575 troy oz .900 1895 Very Fine

Struck in 1895, this United States half dollar represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Minted at the New Orleans facility, as indicated by the 'O' mint mark, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. It survives today in Very Fine condition, allowing observers to appreciate the finer points of its nineteenth-century artistry. The obverse showcases a dignified profile of Lady Liberty, envisioned by designer Charles Barber. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head, paired with a Phrygian cap, while the word 'Liberty' is clearly inscribed upon her band. Surrounding her portrait are the stars and the date of mintage. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle dominates the design. The bird is depicted with its wings fully spread, protecting a shield positioned across its chest. In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing the dual themes of peace and readiness, while a ribbon is held aloft in its beak.
