1895-O Barber Half Dollar VG

0.3575 troy oz .900 1895 Very Good

Struck during a transitional era of American coinage, this 1895 half dollar from the New Orleans Mint represents a classic era of United States design. Minted in 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. It survives in Very Good condition, displaying the honest wear of a coin that actively circulated in the late nineteenth century. The obverse features a dignified portrait of Lady Liberty, facing right. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head alongside a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. The year 1895 is stamped clearly below her portrait, while the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," arches above her. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle stretches its wings wide, protecting a shield positioned at its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a banner bearing the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM." Its talons grasp an olive branch of peace and a cluster of arrows, representing strength. The New Orleans "O" mint mark is located beneath the eagle, just above the denomination of "HALF DOLLAR."
