1895-O Barber Quarter Fine

0.1788 troy oz .900 1895 Fine

The 1895 Barber Quarter stands as a classic representative of late nineteenth-century United States coinage. Struck in 90% fine silver with a precious metal weight of 0.17875 troy ounces, this piece was produced at the historic New Orleans Mint. Coins struck at this southern facility are distinguished by the letter O mint mark, which can be found on the reverse side. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin presents a profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed along the top border, with the year 1895 positioned at the bottom. The reverse side displays a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, protecting a shield on its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a banner, while its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing peace and readiness. This 25 cent denomination is framed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR.
