1895-O Barber Quarter Good
The 1895 Barber Quarter represents a fascinating era of American coinage, minted in New Orleans during the late nineteenth century. Crafted from 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent piece contains 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. In its current Good condition, the coin displays the honest wear of a long-circulated piece of currency, where the finer details are softened and the outer rim shows gentle wear from decades of passage through everyday commerce. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin presents a classic depiction of Lady Liberty. She is shown facing right, adorned with a traditional laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap. Above her head, the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is partially visible, with the date 1895 anchored at the bottom. The reverse showcases a powerful heraldic eagle with wings fully spread, protecting a shield positioned at its chest. In its beak, the eagle grasps a banner, while its talons hold a symbolic olive branch and a bundle of arrows. The mint mark "O" is positioned below the eagle, identifying its origin at the historic New Orleans Mint.
