0.0715 troy oz .900 1896 Very Fine

Minted in the year 1896, this United States ten-cent piece represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. It survives today in Very Fine condition, showing the clear details of its late nineteenth-century craftsmanship. The obverse of the coin displays a profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap, with a headband bearing the word LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait are the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the date 1896. This iconic imagery was created by Charles Barber, whose work defined the look of multiple denominations during this period. On the reverse, the coin features a detailed wreath that encircles the face value. The inscription ONE DIME is displayed clearly in the center of this botanical frame, completing a design that circulated widely during the turn of the century.
