0.3575 troy oz .900 1896 Very Good

The 1896 Barber half dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Struck in 90% silver, this fifty-cent piece contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular specimen survives in a circulated, Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that passed through many hands in the late nineteenth century. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin presents a dignified profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath, with the word "Liberty" clearly visible on her headband. The motto "In God We Trust" arches above her head, while the year 1896 is stamped below. The reverse of the coin features a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. In its beak, the eagle supports a banner inscribed with "E Pluribus Unum". Its talons grasp both an olive branch, symbolizing peace, and a cluster of arrows, representing strength. The design is framed by the legend "United States of America" and the denomination "Half Dollar".
