1896-O Barber Half Dollar Good

0.3575 troy oz .900 1896 Good

This half dollar from 1896 represents a bygone era of American coinage, struck at the historic New Orleans Mint. Crafted from 90 percent silver with an actual silver weight of 0.3575 troy ounces, this fifty-cent piece carries the distinct character of a coin that saw active circulation, currently graded in Good condition. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin showcases a profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap underneath a classic laurel wreath. The year 1896 is visible at the bottom, while the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" arches above her head. The reverse side of the coin features a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. A protective shield is positioned over the eagle's chest, while its beak clasps a flowing banner. In its talons, the eagle grips both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing a balance of peace and readiness.
