This 1896 silver quarter represents a fascinating era in United States coinage, minted at the historic New Orleans facility. Struck in 90% fine silver, the coin contains 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. It carries the distinct 'O' mint mark, indicating its origin from the Southern branch mint during a decade of transition and growth in American commerce. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin showcases a regal depiction of Lady Liberty. She is adorned with a traditional laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap, a symbol of freedom. Above her head, the national motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' is inscribed, while the year 1896 is anchored at the bottom. The reverse side presents a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings fully spread.
