1896-S Barber Quarter Good

0.1788 troy oz .900 1896 Good

The 1896 Barber quarter, struck at the San Francisco Mint, represents a classic era of United States coinage. Crafted from 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent piece contains approximately 0.1808 troy ounces of precious metal. Despite its circulated Good condition, the coin retains the essential elements of its historic imagery, which was originally created by the engraver Charles Barber. On the obverse side, the profile of Lady Liberty faces right, adorned with a traditional laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed above her portrait, with the year 1896 anchored at the bottom. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, protecting a shield on its chest. In its talons, the eagle grasps a cluster of arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace, while holding a decorative banner in its beak. The surrounding inscription identifies the issuing nation as the United States of America alongside the denomination of one quarter dollar.
