Struck in the final years of the nineteenth century, this 1897 ten cent piece showcases the artistry of the late Victorian era in America. Minted in Philadelphia, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal. It represents a time when United States coinage carried elegant, classical imagery directly into the pockets of everyday citizens. The obverse displays a proud profile of Lady Liberty, who wears a traditional laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap. This design, created by Charles Barber, is framed by the bold inscription of the nation's name, with the year 1897 anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a lush, detailed wreath wraps around the central denomination, which reads simply as one dime. This specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the crisp details of the foliage and the delicate lines of Liberty's portrait.
