0.0715 troy oz .900 1897 Almost Good

This ten-cent United States coin, struck in 1897 at the San Francisco Mint, represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, it contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Despite its heavily circulated Almost Good condition, the coin retains the essential elements of its late nineteenth-century design. Created by designer Charles Barber, the obverse displays the profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath, surrounded by the country's name and the 1897 year of issue. On the reverse, a detailed wreath encircles the face value, which is clearly inscribed as ONE DIME. This coin offers a tangible look at the everyday currency used during the turn of the century.
