Struck in the late nineteenth century, this 1897 silver half dollar from the San Francisco Mint showcases the enduring artistry of Charles Barber. Despite its heavily circulated state, which leaves the details and rims with noticeable wear, the coin retains the unmistakable character of a bygone era of American coinage. It is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. The obverse presents a profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath, a classic symbol of freedom and victory.
