Struck in the final years of the nineteenth century, this 1898 ten-cent piece is a tangible survivor from the pre-1933 era of United States coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Having circulated through daily commerce, this specimen is preserved in Fine condition, meaning it displays a complete outer rim and retains the essential details of its original artistry despite the wear of time. The obverse features the profile of Lady Liberty, envisioned by designer Charles Barber. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath. While the word Liberty inscribed on her headband may show some weakness in areas due to circulation, the overall portrait remains distinct. Surrounding her image are the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the date 1898. On the reverse, a detailed agricultural wreath encircles the face value. The words ONE DIME are boldly featured at the center of this wreath, creating a simple yet elegant design that defined American pocket change at the turn of the century.
