Struck in the final years of the nineteenth century, this 1898 quarter dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. It survives today in Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that circulated during a transformative period in American history. The obverse displays a dignified profile of Lady Liberty facing right. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head, nestled over a Phrygian cap, with the year 1898 anchored at the bottom. Above her portrait, the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed along the upper rim. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle dominates the design. The eagle holds its wings wide, protecting a shield across its chest.
