The 1898 Barber Quarter stands as a classic representative of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent piece contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. Minted in Philadelphia, this coin has survived the decades in Very Fine condition, preserving the distinct details of its engraving for modern observers to appreciate. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin presents a dignified profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap beneath a laurel wreath, surrounded by stars. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed along the upper rim, with the year 1898 anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle dominates the design. The eagle is depicted with wings fully spread, bearing a protective shield upon its chest. In its beak, it holds a ribbon inscribed with "E PLURIBUS UNUM", while its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing both peace and defense.
