In 1898, the United States Mint in New Orleans struck this ten-cent silver piece, a survivor from the turn of the twentieth century. Minted from 90 percent silver with a precious metal weight of 0.0715 troy ounces, this coin belongs to the celebrated Barber series, named after its creator, Charles Barber. It represents a bygone era of American coinage, carrying the distinctive "O" mint mark of the historic Louisiana facility. The obverse of this dime features a classical profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath, symbols deeply rooted in ancient imagery. On coins in Very Good condition, a portion of the word "LIBERTY" remains visible on her headband, showing the gentle wear of decades in circulation. Surrounding her portrait are the bold letters of the country of origin, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, along with the 1898 date of manufacture. On the reverse side, a detailed wreath encircles the face value of the coin, which is written simply as ONE DIME.
