1899 Barber Half Dollar VG
The 1899 Barber half dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Struck in 90% fine silver, this fifty-cent piece contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular specimen is preserved in Very Good condition, showing honest wear from its time in circulation at the turn of the twentieth century. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin presents a dignified profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath, with the word LIBERTY clearly visible on her headband. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed above her portrait, while the year 1899 is stamped below. The reverse of the coin showcases a powerful heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. A protective shield is positioned over the eagle's chest, and its beak holds a flowing banner. In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing the dual concepts of peace and military readiness. The surrounding inscription reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR.
