1899 Barber Quarter VF
Struck in 90 percent silver at the Philadelphia Mint, this 1899 quarter represents the classic coinage circulating in the United States at the close of the nineteenth century. Designed by Charles Barber, the coin carries a total silver weight of 0.1788 troy ounces and is preserved in Very Fine condition, showing clear details from its time in circulation. The obverse features a profile of Lady Liberty facing right. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head, layered over a Phrygian cap, with the word LIBERTY visible on her headband. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST arches above her, while the year 1899 is anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle dominates the design with its wings fully spread. The bird holds a shield across its chest, grasps an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons, and carries a scroll in its beak. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surrounds the eagle, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR is inscribed below.
