1899-O Barber Dime XF
In 1899, the United States Mint in New Orleans produced a silver dime that showcases the distinctive artistry of the era. This coin, struck in 90 percent silver with a total silver weight of 0.0715 troy ounces, has survived in Extra Fine condition, preserving the clear details of its late nineteenth-century design. The obverse of the coin presents a classic depiction of Lady Liberty, who wears a laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap. Surrounding her portrait are the bold letters of the national inscription, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, along with the 1899 date of manufacture at the bottom. On the reverse, a delicate wreath frames the face value of the coin, which is rendered simply as ONE DIME. The New Orleans mint mark, a small letter O, is positioned below the wreath, identifying its historic origin. This piece represents a fascinating era of American coinage, combining elegant engraving with the enduring appeal of precious metal.
