1899-O Barber Half Dollar VF
The 1899-O Barber half dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage, minted in silver with a purity of 0.900. Produced at the historic New Orleans Mint, this fifty-cent piece contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal and is preserved in Very Fine condition, showing the clear details of its late nineteenth-century craftsmanship. Designed by Charles Barber, the obverse of the coin presents a profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath, with the word "Liberty" visible on her headband. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" arches above her head, while the year 1899 is positioned at the bottom. The reverse of the coin showcases a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, protecting a shield on its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a banner inscribed with "E PLURIBUS UNUM". Its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing peace and readiness. The New Orleans "O" mint mark is located at the bottom, beneath the eagle and just above the denomination.
