0.3575 troy oz .900 1899 Very Fine

In 1899, the San Francisco Mint struck a limited run of 1,686,411 silver half dollars, each containing 0.3575 troy ounces of actual silver content. This particular coin, preserved in Very Fine condition, showcases the distinct artistry of Charles Barber, whose designs defined United States silver coinage at the turn of the twentieth century. Struck from a 90 percent silver alloy, this fifty-cent piece represents a fascinating era of American currency. The obverse of the coin features a dignified profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath, surrounded by the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the 1899 year of issue. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle stretches its wings, bearing a protective shield on its chest and holding a symbolic banner in its beak. In its talons, the eagle grasps an olive branch and a cluster of arrows, with the "S" mint mark of the San Francisco facility positioned below.
