1899-S Barber Quarter Good
Struck in the final year of the nineteenth century, this 1899 Barber quarter represents a fascinating era of United States coinage. Minted at the San Francisco facility, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. Showing the honest wear of a coin that circulated heavily, its details are softened and the outer rim may show slight wear, yet the essential elements of its historic design remain clear. The obverse displays the profile of Lady Liberty, styled by designer Charles Barber. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head, paired with a traditional Phrygian cap. Above her image, the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed, while the year 1899 is anchored at the bottom. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle stretches its wings wide, protecting a shield positioned at its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a banner, while its talons grasp both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. This side features the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR," framing a classic piece of American numismatic artistry.
