Struck in the final year of the nineteenth century, this 1899 Barber quarter represents a fascinating era of United States coinage. Minted at the San Francisco facility, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. Showing the honest wear of a coin that circulated heavily, its details are softened and the outer rim may show slight wear, yet the essential elements of its historic design remain clear. The obverse displays the profile of Lady Liberty, styled by designer Charles Barber. She wears a laurel wreath atop her head, paired with a traditional Phrygian cap.
