Struck at the turn of the twentieth century, this 1900 silver quarter dollar represents a fascinating era of American coinage. Minted in New Orleans, as indicated by the 'O' mint mark, this twenty-five cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of the precious metal. Even in an Almost Good state of preservation, the coin carries the unmistakable character of a piece that circulated heavily through the daily commerce of a bygone era. The coin features the classic artwork of Charles Barber. On the obverse side, Lady Liberty is depicted in profile, wearing a laurel wreath over a Phrygian cap. The reverse side showcases a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide, protecting a shield on its chest. In its beak, the eagle holds a banner, while its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing both peace and readiness.
