1900-O Barber Quarter Good
In the year 1900, the United States Mint in New Orleans produced a silver quarter dollar that captures the design aesthetic of the turn of the century. This twenty-five cent piece, crafted from 90 percent silver with a metal weight of approximately 0.1808 troy ounces, belongs to the celebrated series created by Charles Barber. The obverse of the coin presents a profile of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath, surrounded by the year of issue, 1900, and the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" along the upper border. On the reverse, a powerful heraldic eagle dominates the design. The eagle is shown with its wings spread wide, protecting a shield across its chest. In its beak, it holds a flowing banner, while its talons grasp an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing both peace and readiness. This side also bears the mint mark "O" for New Orleans, alongside the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "QUARTER DOLLAR."
