1900-S Barber Half Dollar AG

0.3575 troy oz .900 1900 Almost Good

Struck in the year 1900, this United States half dollar represents a bygone era of American silver coinage. Minted at the San Francisco facility, which is noted by the S mint mark, this fifty-cent piece contains 0.3575 troy ounces of silver in a 90 percent pure alloy. It is a survivor from a total mintage of 2,560,322 coins produced for that year, now showing the heavy, honest wear of a coin graded in Almost Good condition. The coin features the artwork of Charles Barber on both sides. The obverse depicts Lady Liberty facing right, adorned with a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom. Above her head, the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed, with the 1900 date positioned at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, Barber placed a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. A protective shield rests upon the eagle's chest, while its beak grips a banner. In its talons, the eagle holds both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing the dual themes of peace and readiness.
