In 1900, the San Francisco mint produced a silver quarter dollar featuring the classic designs of Charles Barber. This coin, struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.17875 troy ounces, represents a bygone era of American coinage. The design captures the artistic transition at the turn of the twentieth century, presenting a dignified portrait on one side and a powerful national symbol on the other. The front of the coin showcases a profile of Lady Liberty, who wears a laurel wreath atop a Phrygian cap. A headband across her brow clearly displays the word LIBERTY. On the reverse side, a grand eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide. A protective shield covers the eagle's chest, while its beak firmly grasps a banner. In its talons, the eagle clutches both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing a readiness for both peace and defense.
