1901 Barber Quarter AG

0.1788 troy oz .900 1901 Almost Good

The 1901 silver quarter offers a tangible look at America's turn of the century coinage. Struck in 90 percent pure silver, this twenty five cent piece contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular specimen survives in Almost Good condition, showing the deep wear and honest circulation of a coin that actively passed through many hands in the early twentieth century. Designed by Charles Barber, the coin features a classic obverse portrait of Lady Liberty. She is depicted facing right, wearing a traditional Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath, with the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" resting above her. The year 1901 is anchored at the bottom of the design. The reverse side displays a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. A protective shield covers the eagle's chest, while its beak holds a decorative banner. In its talons, the eagle grasps both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing a readiness for both peace and defense. This coin was minted at the Philadelphia facility, which is indicated by the absence of a mint mark.
