Struck in 1902 at the Philadelphia Mint, this ten-cent piece represents a classic era of United States silver coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. It has survived more than a century in a Very Fine state of preservation, displaying the clear details of its original artistry after decades of light circulation. The obverse features a dignified portrait of Lady Liberty, who wears a traditional Phrygian cap adorned with a laurel wreath. The year 1902 is stamped clearly beneath her portrait, flanked by the bold inscription of the nation's name, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. On the reverse, a lush wreath frames the denomination, ONE DIME. Designed by Charles Barber, this elegant combination of agricultural imagery and classical allegory captures the aesthetic spirit of turn-of-the-century America.
