1902 Barber Half Dollar VG

0.3575 troy oz .900 1902 Very Good

Struck in 1902 at the Philadelphia Mint, this silver half dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. It stands as a testament to the artistry of Charles Barber, whose designs defined the look of American silver currency at the turn of the twentieth century. The obverse of the coin features a profile of Lady Liberty, who wears a laurel wreath and a Phrygian cap. On this specimen, which is graded in Very Good condition, the inscription of her name is partially visible. Surrounding her portrait is the motto of trust and the year of issue, 1902. The reverse side presents a heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. A protective shield rests upon the eagle's chest, while its beak firmly holds a banner inscribed with the traditional motto of unity. In its claws, the eagle grasps both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbols representing peace and preparedness. This detailed imagery is framed by the country of origin and the denomination of fifty cents.
